WEST END, Grand Bahama – Soon after a fun-filled Easter holiday weekend, the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the West End Eco-Fishing Camp Association and the Grand Bahama Sailing Club will be serving up yet another exciting family event.
The 4th Annual West End Junior Sailing Regatta, scheduled for Saturday, April 11th, 2015 in beautiful West End will be the location for sports enthusiasts.
The Junior Sailing Regatta organizers are delighted to recognize more than 50 boys and girls from the community who have been certified as sailors by the Grand Bahama Sailing Club.
The certified 20 juniors selected to compete will have the opportunity to be paired with other junior sailors from Freeport, to compete for trophies and recognition as being the first teams in their respective categories to win in their event.
Competitors will be sailing dinghies, also known as Optis or formally as Optimists vessels.
The Opti is a small, single-crew sailing dinghy, designed for children. It is one of the most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 132,000 boats officially registered with the class.
As in years past, it is expected that the not only will the event feature an exciting competition but great food and cultural entertainment including, the Legends Marching Band, Lil Joe Cartwright, live Junkanoo and a special appearance by the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival musical artists and models.
This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 11th from11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Bayshore Road, West End, Grand Bahama Island.
