Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, October 14, 2019…. Carnival Cruise Lines made its eagerly anticipated return to Grand Bahama Island on Friday, October 11, bringing over 2,600 visitors to experience firsthand the island’s ongoing recovery.
The Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board (GBITB) welcomed the visit of the Carnival Pride as a big win for the island’s steadily improving tourism industry and a major boost to the island’s economy. For their part, both the Carnival Cruise Line representatives and their guests were very happy to be on island to support the economy and give Freeport their heartfelt vote of confidence.
The Grand Bahama Port Authority in partnership with the Grand Bahama Taxi Union provided special taxi fares from Freeport Harbour for visitors disembarking from the ship. The SoMo app offered $5 rides from Freeport Harbour to Taino Beach to
Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, October 8, 2019…… The Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board (GBITB) is pleased with the announcement from the Grand Bahama International Airport (GBIA) that they are targeting the middle of November for the resumption of direct flights to and from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, subject to approval by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, and the completion of significant repairs that are presently underway.
Three domestic carriers currently offer regularly scheduled flights to Freeport including Bahamasair, Western Air and Flamingo Air. Private charters, cargo, and relief flights are also operating regularly. The Airport waived all landing and related aircraft, cargo and passenger fees to assist with the humanitarian relief efforts.

FREEPORT, Bahamas (Sept. 30, 2019) Grand Bahama International Airport (GBIA), a privately-owned joint venture between Hutchison Ports and The Port Group (The Grand Bahama Port Authority) today provided an update to the operating capabilities of the airport post hurricane Dorian. The facility incurred extensive damage during the storm, including complete destruction of all passenger and cargo handling buildings, administration and operations buildings as well as damage to navigational aids and perimeter fencing.
Limited Airport services resumed a day after the all clear and the runway was made available for emergency rescue and relief flights on September 5th and airport staff began the arduous task of assessing damage and establishing temporary operations capabilities.
